Operation
From 1 November to 1 December 2019, 10 SMART drumlines were deployed for 25 days. Environmental conditions determined how long SMART drumlines were deployed on any given day, ranging from 5:07h to 11:58h. On average, SMART drumlines were deployed daily for 9:45h.
Catch
From 1 November to 1 December 2019, 2 target sharks were caught (Table 1): 1 White Shark at Stockton Beach and 1 at Newcastle Beach. One non-target Bronze Whaler Shark was caught at Newcastle Beach (Table 1). All animals were released alive.
Comments
When the contractor responded to two alerts that had no catch, they found that both hooks had no bait remaining.
All other sharks triggered an alert to the DPI contractors who responded and were at the SMART drumline within an average of 19 minutes.
